Farmington's East Bench — Some of the Best Lots in Davis County

Farmington's east bench is where people go when they want a Davis County address and room to build something. The views are legitimately great — north toward Ben Lomond, south toward Salt Lake Valley, west over the lake. Properties up on the bench have the kind of outdoor potential that takes a skilled contractor to realize, because the terrain isn't flat and the drainage isn't simple. But that's exactly the kind of project we've been building throughout our career in Northern Utah.

What we see most often in Farmington is the combination of a significant grade change between the back of the house and the rear property line, combined with a homeowner who wants usable outdoor living space in what's currently a slope that you can barely mow. That's a retaining wall and terracing problem, and it's one we've solved on dozens of comparable Farmington properties. The goal is to create two or three usable levels — a main patio off the house, a lower entertainment area or lawn, and stabilized slope between them that doesn't erode.

Paver patios in Farmington command a design quality that matches the home investment in this area. These aren't entry-level projects. People who buy on the Farmington east bench are building their long-term home, and the outdoor space gets the same level of thought as the interior. We've done paver projects here with fire pit areas, built-in seating walls, pergola pads, and coordinated planting that make the backyard feel like an extension of the living space — because that's what it should be.

Station Park and the surrounding commercial development brought more visibility to Farmington, but the residential quality here has always been high. We've watched the east bench neighborhoods develop over the years, and the properties that invested in quality outdoor work early are the ones that photograph the best and hold value the strongest. That's not a coincidence.

East Bench Slope and Drainage

Farmington's east bench properties typically slope west toward the lake — which is the right direction for drainage if you design for it, but the wrong direction if you let it run unmanaged. We design all bench installations with surface drainage that channels water away from structures and toward drains or approved outlet points. The soil up here tends to be well-draining with gravel and cobble at depth, which makes base preparation relatively predictable once you're through the topsoil layer.

EC Scaping is based in Hooper, Utah — right in the middle of the Weber-Davis County market we serve. We\'re not a Salt Lake City contractor stretching north to fill capacity. Farmington is our territory, and we\'ve built enough projects here to know what works and what doesn\'t in this specific environment.

  • Utah Climate Expertise

Over a decade of building in Northern Utah's freeze-thaw climate. We spec base depth, drainage, and materials for where we are, not a generic national standard.

  • Honest, Detailed Estimates

We price jobs accurately the first time. What we quote is what you pay — no low-ball bids followed by change orders that get you where they planned to be all along.

  • Licensed & Insured

Utah contractor's license, full general liability, and workers' comp on every project. Our credentials are available on request before any contract is signed.

Farmington Landscape & Hardscape — FAQ

Yes — terracing steep slopes is one of our most common project types in Davis County. We design retaining walls at appropriate heights to create multiple level areas, tie them together with steps, and surface the patio areas with pavers or concrete. The result turns a slope you couldn't use into outdoor square footage that functions.

Terracing projects vary widely based on how much grade change you're working with, wall height and length, and what surface you want on the terraced levels. We provide detailed written estimates after a free site visit. Don't trust any contractor who quotes a terracing job without seeing the site.

We integrate low-voltage landscape lighting into hardscape projects — step lights, paver band lights, and bollard lighting in patio and wall features. Lighting is something Farmington homeowners use heavily given the outdoor living investment up here, and it extends your usable hours into the evening months.

A properly built concrete block or boulder retaining wall in this climate will outlast the house in most cases. The failure modes we see on retaining walls almost always come down to inadequate drainage behind the wall (hydrostatic pressure), insufficient base, or walls that were undersized for the load. We build with drainage fabric, gravel backfill, and weep holes on every wall to prevent those failures.

Yes. We work on new construction projects and coordinate directly with the general contractor or builder on scheduling, grading handoff, and utility marking. New construction in Farmington often involves coordinating around utilities that aren't fully mapped yet — we work carefully in those situations.

We focus on design and installation rather than ongoing maintenance, but we can recommend maintenance partners in the Davis County area. On planting installations, we also provide a care guide specific to what we've installed so you know exactly what each plant needs.

My husband and I are very pleased with the project that EC Landscaping completed at our home. They took out over 6000 sqft of grass, replacing it with different types of rock, flower beds, pathway, and drip system. One of the reasons we chose them is because of their excellent communication with us, which they maintained throughout the project. Their quote was also significantly lower than 2 other bids we received. We were impressed by the dedicated and hard working crew. We expected the project to take 2 weeks, but they completed it in 7 days, showing up by 7 am and working past 5 pm every day. It is refreshing to work with a company that cares about their clients and takes pride in their work. Two of our existing trees showed signs of stress due to the work done around them. When I contacted EC Landscaping about my concern over them, I didn't think they would respond. I was wrong. They came out to see what was going on with my trees and made some adjustments to maintain their health. I would recommend EC Landscaping in a heartbeat.

Thomas and his team from EC Landscaping LLC just finished a project for us at our home in Eden Utah! Our project was small - a concrete pad for our utility trailer, a new front walkway and stairs (replacing the existing paver stones), a beautiful tiered natural stone flower bed and a new stone and masonry mailbox pedestal. Also refreshed some of our existing landscaping with stone borders and natural bark mulch. Thomas worked with us every step of the way and provided samples and ideas. He was receptive to changing the tiered flower bed from a rustic block to natural stone to better fit the rest of the neighborhood. He was professional, knowledgeable and helped us work within our budget. The concrete trailer pad was cracked during construction of the stone flower bed and EC Landscaping replaced the entire pad at no extra charge!
The team on site were the hardest working group ever; they knew what they were doing, answered questions, were friendly and cleaned up daily. They completed the project in 5 days - from demolition to final product. Team lead and stone mason was an artist - the tiered stone flower bed and mailbox pedestal are incredible! Our neighbors have stopped to compliment the work.
My husband and I are thrilled with our beautiful new yard from EC Landscaping!

I was excited when I got home from Spokane and saw my driveway. They did a great job and made it unique. Everything was left clean, and they also redid the sprinklers and brought top soil to put around them and the grass. Love the way you raked the squares in a different direction. I'll make sure and recommend your company especially for the expertise and customer satisfaction you put into it.

EC Landscaping replaced 3 failing retaining walls, made step access to my upper yard, and came up with an idea to give me a raised bed front border for my property in Hyrum. I couldn’t be more pleased. There were two crews who communicated with me, worked long days, cleaned up after themselves, and were kind to my dog.

We would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again for future projects.

EC was punctual with their scheduling and very upfront regarding not starting the concrete portion of the job until the weather was such that we could ensure proper setting time. They also helped me solve some challenging drainage issues throughout my landscaping project. They were able to get a shorter than standard custom gate to match my existing fence and mount it. They connected me with a reasonable curbing company since they did not have the machine to lay custom curbing. I had several bids but EC gave me the most detail in their bid to help ensure there were no surprises with the final invoice. I would definitely consider EC for any future jobs.
