Park City Properties Require a Different Level of Craft

Park City sits at about 7,000 feet, and the outdoor environment up there is extraordinary. The problem most Park City homeowners run into is that the elevation and the terrain make outdoor hardscape construction genuinely difficult — and the contractor pool that can do it well at that altitude is smaller than people expect. We've worked at elevation throughout the Wasatch Back and understand what mountain conditions do to materials, base systems, and timelines.

The outdoor living investment in Park City is often substantial — these are luxury properties, second homes, and estate residences where the budget for a patio project reflects the quality of the home itself. We build to that standard. A Park City patio project isn't the right job for a contractor who's scaling price and cutting corners on base depth or material selection. At 7,000 feet with 250-plus inches of annual snowpack, those shortcuts show up within two to three winters.

Paver work is our most common Park City request — specifically large-format stone-look pavers that complement the mountain aesthetic and hold up through a climate that would destroy lesser installations. Fire pit installations are almost universal on Park City projects; the combination of cool mountain evenings and extraordinary clear-sky darkness makes an outdoor fire a lifestyle anchor, not a luxury extra. We build fire features that are integrated into the patio design, not set off to the side as an afterthought.

Summit County permitting is something we navigate for Park City projects. The county and Park City Municipal have specific requirements for grading, walls, and impervious surface coverage that affect project design. We work within those regulations and handle the permit process — in an area with active enforcement and neighborhood oversight, doing this right from the start protects your project and your relationship with the neighbors.

High-Altitude Mountain Terrain Demands

Park City's terrain varies dramatically — some properties sit on relatively accessible flats in Old Town or the resort base areas; others are on steep Deer Valley or Glenwild hillsides where equipment access is a serious logistical consideration. Rock is omnipresent at Park City elevations, and excavation often requires different equipment than valley floor work. We assess access and site conditions during the consultation and price accordingly — Park City jobs are not the place for flat-rate guessing.

EC Scaping is based in Hooper, Utah — right in the middle of the Weber-Davis County market we serve. We\'re not a Salt Lake City contractor stretching north to fill capacity. Park City is our territory, and we\'ve built enough projects here to know what works and what doesn\'t in this specific environment.

  • Utah Climate Expertise

Over a decade of building in Northern Utah's freeze-thaw climate. We spec base depth, drainage, and materials for where we are, not a generic national standard.

  • Honest, Detailed Estimates

We price jobs accurately the first time. What we quote is what you pay — no low-ball bids followed by change orders that get you where they planned to be all along.

  • Licensed & Insured

Utah contractor's license, full general liability, and workers' comp on every project. Our credentials are available on request before any contract is signed.

Park City Landscape & Hardscape — FAQ

Yes. Park City and the broader Summit County area is within our extended service area. Travel time and logistics affect scheduling — we typically cluster Park City projects and schedule consultations in the area when we're already in the region. Call to discuss your project and we'll work out the logistics.

High-density concrete pavers with very low water absorption are the right call at Park City elevation. The freeze-thaw intensity at 7,000 feet is severe, and cheap pavers will spall and crack within a few seasons. We specify and install products from manufacturers who engineer for mountain climate applications.

Deeper than valley floor installations. We go to at least eight to ten inches of compacted base material at Park City elevation to account for the frost depth, which can reach four feet or more in a hard winter. This adds cost but is non-negotiable for long-term performance.

Yes. Fire features at altitude need proper gas line design (if gas) or appropriate non-combustible material choices (if wood burning). Park City and Summit County have specific regulations about outdoor fire features in certain zones, particularly wildfire interface areas. We check the applicable regs before design.

Yes. We handle permit applications with Summit County and Park City Municipal as part of the project. Both jurisdictions take hardscape permitting seriously, and the inspection process is standard on any wall or grading project in the county.

The construction window in Park City is roughly May through October, with June through September being the most reliable. We schedule Park City projects in advance because the short season means competition for crew time is real. If you're planning a summer project, the conversation should start in winter or early spring.

My husband and I are very pleased with the project that EC Landscaping completed at our home. They took out over 6000 sqft of grass, replacing it with different types of rock, flower beds, pathway, and drip system. One of the reasons we chose them is because of their excellent communication with us, which they maintained throughout the project. Their quote was also significantly lower than 2 other bids we received. We were impressed by the dedicated and hard working crew. We expected the project to take 2 weeks, but they completed it in 7 days, showing up by 7 am and working past 5 pm every day. It is refreshing to work with a company that cares about their clients and takes pride in their work. Two of our existing trees showed signs of stress due to the work done around them. When I contacted EC Landscaping about my concern over them, I didn't think they would respond. I was wrong. They came out to see what was going on with my trees and made some adjustments to maintain their health. I would recommend EC Landscaping in a heartbeat.

Thomas and his team from EC Landscaping LLC just finished a project for us at our home in Eden Utah! Our project was small - a concrete pad for our utility trailer, a new front walkway and stairs (replacing the existing paver stones), a beautiful tiered natural stone flower bed and a new stone and masonry mailbox pedestal. Also refreshed some of our existing landscaping with stone borders and natural bark mulch. Thomas worked with us every step of the way and provided samples and ideas. He was receptive to changing the tiered flower bed from a rustic block to natural stone to better fit the rest of the neighborhood. He was professional, knowledgeable and helped us work within our budget. The concrete trailer pad was cracked during construction of the stone flower bed and EC Landscaping replaced the entire pad at no extra charge!
The team on site were the hardest working group ever; they knew what they were doing, answered questions, were friendly and cleaned up daily. They completed the project in 5 days - from demolition to final product. Team lead and stone mason was an artist - the tiered stone flower bed and mailbox pedestal are incredible! Our neighbors have stopped to compliment the work.
My husband and I are thrilled with our beautiful new yard from EC Landscaping!

I was excited when I got home from Spokane and saw my driveway. They did a great job and made it unique. Everything was left clean, and they also redid the sprinklers and brought top soil to put around them and the grass. Love the way you raked the squares in a different direction. I'll make sure and recommend your company especially for the expertise and customer satisfaction you put into it.

EC Landscaping replaced 3 failing retaining walls, made step access to my upper yard, and came up with an idea to give me a raised bed front border for my property in Hyrum. I couldn’t be more pleased. There were two crews who communicated with me, worked long days, cleaned up after themselves, and were kind to my dog.

We would highly recommend them and would definitely use them again for future projects.

EC was punctual with their scheduling and very upfront regarding not starting the concrete portion of the job until the weather was such that we could ensure proper setting time. They also helped me solve some challenging drainage issues throughout my landscaping project. They were able to get a shorter than standard custom gate to match my existing fence and mount it. They connected me with a reasonable curbing company since they did not have the machine to lay custom curbing. I had several bids but EC gave me the most detail in their bid to help ensure there were no surprises with the final invoice. I would definitely consider EC for any future jobs.
